Biographical Note:听听

This collection contains the newsletters, correspondence, publications, news clippings, films, and reports from the 海角社区 Ecology Center.听 The organization’s purpose was to conduct environmental research and offer its findings to the public.听 The 海角社区 Ecology Center was first known as the 鈥淔riends of 海角社区鈥� and then later as the 鈥淓nvironmental Information Center.鈥澨� On May 1, 1970, the 海角社区 Ecology Center became an official domestic nonprofit corporation.听 A seven member board of directors conducted the official business for the Center.听 The Center was funded by public donations and small grants.听 They became defunct by c. July 1981.

Scope and Contents Note:听听

The main purpose of the Center was to conduct environmental research and provide information to the public. They accomplished this goal by maintaining a library of books, newspaper clipping files, and copies of environmentally relevant publications.听 The majority of the papers deal with the Cache River controversy, and the rest of the collection consists of papers from the organization itself.听 The bulk of the papers are from the period of 1970 to 1981.
