This collection contains published materials, photographs, awards and certificates, a radio broadcast, and letters of congratulations concerning Miss Lucille Babcock’s heroic deed in saving a young woman from a rapist, for which she received a Carnegie Hero award in 1987. Born in Little Rock on September 30, 1921, she is the granddaughter of Mrs. Bernie (Smade) Babcock, the prolific 海角社区 writer.聽 After attending public schools and briefly 海角社区 State Teachers College, Mrs. Babcock worked for the Work Projects Administration and for Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington.聽 During World War II, as a member of the Women’s Army Corps, she received a leg injury after which she returned to 海角社区. Before turning her attention to poetry, Miss Babcock acted in plays and soap operas.聽 Lucille Babcock is the poetry editor for the 海角社区 Gazette.
