CONWAY 鈥� The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Central 海角社区 continues the “Exploring Our World” series with a free public lecture on the reception of Chinese philosophies and religions by European scholars. The lecture, Western Gazes upon China, will be held Tuesday, April 16 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center located on the UCA campus.
A panel of faculty members, sponsored by the Confucius Institute and Humanities and World Cultures Institute at UCA, will discuss western responses to Chinese philosophies through modern and post-modern intellectual history.
Beginning chronologically, Dr. Crockett, associate professor of Religious Studies, will present on 鈥淟eibniz鈥檚 Writings on China.鈥� Dr. Deitrick, associate professor of Philosophy and Religion, will then follow up with a talk on 鈥溾�極riental Philosophy鈥� in the Writings of Hegel.鈥� Dr. Zhuang, director of the Confucius Institute at UCA, then shifts the discussion into the twentieth century with 鈥淏etrand Russel鈥檚 Romance with China.鈥� Dr. Brasovan, Director of the UCA Humanities and World Cultures Institute and Regional Center for Asian Studies, will then speak on 鈥淲hitehead鈥檚 Appropriation of 鈥楨astern Asiatic鈥� Religion.鈥�
